A tall, silver analog clock inspired by motorsport, elegance and precision. This piece have a pearl face with wavepatterns that change colors during the day and are constantly animated.
This clock was inspired by a vintage Alfa Romeo Watch that I cant find pictures of.
My aim was to create a precise and elegant clock. The dials were inspired by the watch I mentioned, but they are quite plain: white background, black numbers, black marks; I also wanted to use black hands. So how could I make this clock not boring? I came up with this perpetual wave pattern that is constantly changing and moving. The shapes of the waves could be better and more expressive, but my time was limited for this creation. I compensate this design blandness with motion on the waves.
To break the wave patterns and make the clock’s face mor interesting to look at, every 7th wave is colored. At mid-night these special waves have a strong blue tint, at noon they have a strong golden tint. At 6 and 18 o’clock the special waves have no special tint. These changes are all gradual and happen during the day.
Clicking this clock makes it spin 90 degrees clockwise. Some elements are rearranged to help with readability.
This clock was supposed to be slimmer, but during development and experimentation it seems there were too much empty space, and I didn’t want to add any more info to the piece. The final height to width ratio is 1:3/5.
I used Dorsa font, designed by Santiago Orozco, under the SIL Open Font License, for the numbers and the text in the middle. This is the first clock I put my name on display.
